William Wordsworth (1804)
In this chapter I would like to explain about some of poetry terms in a poem by William Wordsworth “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud”.
First of all in this poetry there are couplet, which is means
shakespearean sonnets usually end in a couplet and are a pair of lines that are the same length and usually rhyme and form a complete thought. This is an example of couplet;
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;                           Couplet
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
There are also many other terms such as Rhythm which is means significant in poetry because poetry is so emotionally charged and intense. Rhythm can be measured in terms of heavily stressed to less stressed syllables. Rhythm is measured in feet, units usually consisting of one heavily accented syllable and one or more lightly accented syllable.
And in this poetry there are Rhyme (the occurrence of the same or similar sounds at the end of two or more words). Basicly we can see in the couplet AB rhyme and AA rhyme.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,                 AB
They stretched in never-ending
line
Along the margin of a
bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a
glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly
dance.          AA
William Wordsworth also popular with romantic poem, that’s why there are so many romanticism which was a reaction to the classicism of the early 18th century, favoured feeling over reason and placed great emphasis on the subjective, or personal, experience of the individual.Thats term always suggest the readers in romanticly.
I wandered lonely as a cloud
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze
.
This poetry also brought Personification (means giving human traits to nonhuman or abstract things).
And dances with the daffodils
Daffodils is a kind of flower, but in this poetry the creator use to dance, which is deed of human. There are some of poetry terms in this poetry.
